Salted Caramel Pecan Brownies

Whoever was the first to sprinkle those diamond like salt crystals on top of some caramel, we thank you! It was a great move and a flavor combination enjoyed by the masses. Add this combo to the best brownies ever and top it with some pecans and you can enjoy one of our favorite brownies of the month.

What you need:

  • 1 Off Kilter Brownie Mix
  • 1/3 cup chopped pecans for brownie and ½ cup for topping
  • 2/3 cup caramel sauce
  • ½ tsp flake or course ground salt

Prepare your brownie mix as directed and stir in 1/3 cup chopped pecans. Bake according to package instructions.

While your brownies are still warm add caramel sauce of your choice.

Top caramel with whole pecans and salt!!!!

 

 

On the caramel sauce:

If you bought some of our premade pans at the Memorial Village Farmers market in Houston we used a fantastic premade caramel sauce from Southern Boy Soda Works as well as Organic pecans from Texas.

At home I choose to make my own caramel sauce. A store bought sauce is great to use, but if you want to make it at home, here is my recipe:

Caramel Sauce

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ c (1 stick) butter
  • ½ cup heavy cream

Place sugar in saucepan and melt until dark and amber colored. While melting it will clump. Just be sure to stir to remove the clumps and prevent burning.

Removed from heat and add butter a chunk at a time. Be careful as adding the butter can cause the sugar to bubble up. Mix until butter is melted then add heavy cream and stir until a glossy smooth consistency.
