Market Monday: Johnson’s Backyard Garden!

One of the most traditional finds at farmers markets is, of course, veggies. Frequently, the farmers market vegetable farmers are some of the most consistent vendors you will find. Veggies are always continually growing, and it’s hard to tell them to wait for next week because you don’t feel like going to market today! Today I want to highlight Johnson’s Backyard Garden, more commonly know around the market as JBG.

JBG is a fantastic vegetable farm based out of Austin, TX. They are certified organic and grow amazing food! You can get it at several farmers markets every week around Texas. They also offer a CSA program that can even be delivered to your front door! You can also sponsor a CSA share so that they can support several local organizations with quality food for women and children who have escaped abuse. This is a way wonderful way to help serve the local community!

Where to Find Them

They started out in Brenton Johnson’s backyard back in 2004 (hence “johnson’s backyard garden”) and have since grown from there to be 2 different properties where they farm over 200 acres. There is consistently a wide variety of different vegetables available no matter the season. And to top it all off, they have the coolest feature for their CSA where once a week they put a picture out of their normal CSA box and each vegetable can be clicked on with storage tips and recipe ideas! They really care for their customers through this, and this keeps anyone from getting stuck with a veggie that they don’t know how to use. It’s also a super fun way to find new recipes to try that work beautifully with the veggies you’re getting fresh in season!

Bottom line is that we love their veggies and we think you will, too. If you are in Austin, Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio most assuredly check out JBG!
