While cutting out brownies for our family decorating last week there was no way I could bring myself to throw out the brownie scraps. With sugar cookies you can re-roll and get more cookies but with brownies sadly you cannot. SO I came up with a plan.
Brownie bourbon balls Y’all!!!!
What you need
- OKB brownie scraps from two recipes of our regular brownies
- 1/8 – 1/4 cup bourbon (whiskey or rum works great too)
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 cup chopped pecans (less or more for your personal liking)
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 cup powdered sugar
Start by crumbling your brownie scraps into a large bowl and adding your bourbon a little at a time. You want your scraps to be moist, not soaking wet. Add your butter and completely incorporate. Then add nuts, stirring in well.
Fill a bowl or flat-bottomed container with sides with the powdered sugar (you can use more than a cup if you would like). I used a I used a small cookie scoop (#40) to scoop the bourbon ball mixture. However, I will admit that as rich as these are you could easily make these balls smaller.
Scoop the mixture and roll into compact balls. Roll the balls in the powdered sugar. Make sure to roll each ball around and completely cover in the powdered sugar.
Once you have finished your bourbon balls you can pack and store then in an airtight container for quite a while. I pack them powdered sugar so they stay nice and moist.
These are the perfect treats for a New Year’s Eve party!!!
