Are you having enough fun? I know that’s a rather odd question to be asking, but I think it’s important to talk about. As I have talked about before, I believe stress can cause even more damage to your body than eating improperly can. Part of this is certainly because are we overloading ourselves and not including any white space in our lives. A part of this, also though, is whether we are making the time to relax and have fun.
Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That!
Now you might be looking at me crazy right now. Fun? I don’t have time to brush my teeth much less have fun! I totally understand that. We are starting a small business, working full time in a day job, raising 3 small children, have a homestead, do church activities, and have to wash and fold all the laundry all the time. I understand and can empathize when someone feels like there is no time to do anything fun. But enjoying ourselves is a must have to be able to remain sane.
Don’t get me wrong, you might not be able to have fun the way you used to in college or before you had kids. Maybe taking the random road trips you loved or going for a hike all day on the weekend is not possible any more. That’s absolutely true! But that doesn’t mean we need to ignore the things that we can do. Can you take the responsibilities you do have, kids for example, and do a fun thing with them? Can you go take that hike with them in a shorter version? Maybe don’t choose the toughest trail, find an easy one that they can walk on but you can still enjoy being in nature. And you can experience the joy of introducing your kiddos to your own hobbies and enjoyments.
Fun times allow our bodies to relax and release endorphins. We cannot be at 100% at all times, it simply does not work. Trust me I’ve tried it… Having fun also allows our brains to relax and let go of the current cares. That way we can come back and be refreshed afterwards, and our minds can attack the problems afresh.
ACTUALLY Have Fun
I think another aspect of this is asking is what you are doing actually, truly fun for you? I know I can sit on youtube or facebook forever because I want to “relax” and then I don’t feel very relaxed afterwards. Are you doing what you would actually like to be doing? Once again I realize that life circumstances can preclude doing EXACTLY what we want to be doing. However, are you substituting a cheap “fun” substitute for something you would actually enjoy. I know I would rather get out and have a fun mini hike with my kids instead of sitting around and watching youtube.
Don’t get me wrong, there are responsibilities in life, and especially if you are trying to start a small business there is work that needs to be done. For the sake of fun don’t put off what needs to be done. There is always an unending list of things that I need to be doing though. I could NEVER take a break and still have things to do. I must take a break or loose my mind though.
So how do you find the time to relax and have fun? Do you have the time built into your schedule or do you just wing it? Let us know in the comments or on social media!
Make it a tasty day,
